Spending Arena Points, BoJs and Honor/Tokens    2010-03-29 00:00:00
I have done a bit of research but can't find a clear or comprehensive answer, especially not with a druidic spin on it. I think I've got 'karma credit' in case this is a dumb question. : ) I know Blizz changed their minds and are no longer going to arena points and honor with WLK, but will they be more useful after the xpack than they are today? I know WLK will feature a whole new badge system, and assume current badges will only be good for current level 70 stuff. Simply put, should I buy stuff now or hoard my non-gold for later? I'm sitting on 36 badges, 1400ish arena points, and 14,000 honor. I know it doesn't sound like much but for me PvP is a grind so I always want to get the best bang for my buck. My current thinking is that I will: 1) Spend the arena points on S3 legs to replace my Heavy Clefty pants since armor got nerfed and def is not needed. 2) Spend the honor on Vindicator's boots for PvP since my choices today are PvE-centric Edgewalker or Natural Grace. 3) Spend the badges on...damn, can't make up my mind. Already hav...

A Treatice of Peace    2010-03-08 00:00:00
I play on a PVP server, and I often find myself ambushed by multiple allies for no apparent reason. Before you say it, this is not a QQ session. In fact, I rather enjoy the world PVP aspect of the game. I was once jumped by a 70 warrior, and I loved nothing better than kiting him all the way from Hammerfall and toying with him It's satisfying. But lately, most of the ones doing the ganking are other hunters... and it's not a single kill, it's an all-out camp-fest. What I am proposing is that, as hunters, we est...
Hunters and Sharpening Stones    2010-03-01 00:00:00
Sharpening Stone Requires Level 60 Use: Increase sharp weapon damage by 12 and add 14 melee critical strike rating for 1 hour. Our guns are not sharp (though I guess the arrows should be sharp......) and it specifically says melee critical Hunter Zelok-71 Lock Zedead-70 DK Zebug-61 Rogue Zepally-48 Pally uzemaki wrote:I am under the impression sharpening stones and the likes only affect melee and do not help ranged stats at all.true. It only effects the damage done with that particular weapon. edit: sharpening your axe to deal more damage with your gun also doesnt make sense.... a magical weapon oil does... kind of... a bit.... Please ignore my gear. I know it's bad... Thanks. (PS. If it says theharter is awaiting updateos I haven't been on in a while, it's nonsense.)First problem I see is that you have points in Imp. MMO Design Blog of the Month: MMO Tidbits    2009-11-09 00:00:00
Every once in a while you find a diamond in the rough in the world of MMO design blogs. There are many great sites out there and I try to link most of them. Some are so popular such as Tobold and Broken Toys that to link them would be just needless overkill. One amazing site just came to my attention is MMO Tidbits. It’s the creation of Arnold Hendrick a 25 year industry veteran. He’s a video game producer with an impressive resume and an even more impressive series of articles on MMO game design. Here’s just a small sampling of Arnold’s unique perspective on MMO design:The uncommon ingredient I bring to the field of MMO games is historical perspective. It鈥檚 not just my 25 years in the computer game industry. My original academic training was in history. MMO game development ...
Uncle Coyote's Last Post Ever, No really.    2009-09-18 00:00:00
Okay, so it's not. Still...the mail bag has been a bit weird as of late and as I started weeding through the questions in order to compile apost for today I noticed that two very distinct categories were forming. One was well thought out and intelligent questions that would have made for a serious toned and informative -maybe even EDUCATIONALcolumn, and the other was a bunch of questions that made mesay : "What that f***?!?" Guess which ones I went with. So today I bring you the lastestaddition to our growing number of bulging sacks entitled... "Uncle Coyote's Bulging sack of MYSTERY!" "I know the April Fools Day Prank was just a prank and you didn't get me, but are you really leaving Ten Ton Hammer because they are selling gold?" You know it was a joke and I didn't get you but you want to know if it was really a joke or not. For all of you who thought that I was really leaving, (and there were a LARGE number of you, regardless of the above claims) please note that yes, it was indeed just an April Fool's Day prank. Ten Ton Hammer wanted to do SOMETHING but we were unsure as of what. And while other sites might sniff in disdain and roll their eyes at something as low brow and juvenile as an April Fools Day prank, I'd like to speak for all of TenTonHammer.com by saying; We totally aren't. We are the guys and girls who show up late to the party (already drunk) and try to blend in with our tuxedo print t-shirts and loud drunken grabassery. And while others might think this juvenile and unprofessional, I'd like to point out that we are...
Nintendo and Blizzard Lead "Top 50 Developers" List    2009-09-07 00:00:00
Game Developer magazine has published its second annual "Top 50 Developers" list, with two very familiar (and unsurprising) names taking first and second: Nintendo and Blizzard, respectively. The list, as compiled by Game Developer, was created by combining hard numbers - review scores, sales - with a survey of industry professionals. The end result, presumably, is a comprehensive list of the best developers in the business based on metrics like reputation, review scores, and cold, hard cash.Though as I understand it, this isn't a list of the best developers in 2008 (like that last list Blizzard and Nintendo topped), a studio was considered ineligible for the list if it had no released a new game last year. That would explain the absence of acclaimed Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward, who took home second place last year (bookended by Nintendo and Blizzard at first and third).Nintendo powered to the top via ridiculous sales and a strong industry reputation, whereas Blizzard had high sales of Wrath of the Lich King bolstered by stellar reputation scores that "eclipsed ...
